COW (Calculus on the web) is an internet utility for learning and practicing calculus. The principal purpose of COW is to provide you, the student, with the opportunity to learn and practice problems in calculus (and in the future other topics in mathematics) in a friendly environment via the internet. The most important feature of the COW is that you get to know whether your answer is correct almost immediately. It is as if you had a tutor looking over your shoulder and helping you along as you work. This will be true no matter where you are or what computer you use, as long as it is connected to the internet and has a web browser.

Weekly optional assignments are posted. You need to login each time you plan to work on COW, in order to view the assignments and to have your work recorded. Each assignment has a due date (cut-off time is 10pm MT of that date).  No work performed after the due date can be credited. There is no penalty for doing assignments ahead of time.

  • To login you need to set a password. Go to COW and click on the "Login" button.
  • The first (and only) time you access COW you need to go to "Password Exchange" button at the bottom of the page. You will be asked for your Last name, First name (as it appears in your University records), your student ID (9 digit number) and your University (University of Colorado). Then choose "New" button to set your password.
  • For subsequent login, simply log in using your Last Name and the COW password. You may change the password at any time.

FIRST COW cut-off date is Feb 4th, so make sure that you login ASAP.

For troubles using COW, DO NOT go to IT help desk, instead email me (radu@math.uccs.edu) your full name and the last four digits of your Student ID number. It takes only a minute to generate you a temporary password and avoid potential headaches.
