Water waves of permanent form
The study of water waves has a long history, dating back to
ancient times. Within the last few years, several people have
studied fully nonlinear, fully three-dimensional waves that travel as
waves of permanent form. This talk presents an overview of some of
this work, including results from analysis, perturbation theory, and
laboratory experiments. These travelling waves are of interest in
both shallow and deep water, and the results are different in the two
situations.
