PERSISTENCE OF COHERENT STRUCTURES FOR EQUATIONS WITH CONSERVED QUANTITIES

In this talk we extend the method of Melnikov to completely integrable PDE's. We show how many of the invariant tori of the integrable PDE persist under nonhamiltonian perturbations. We use how an example the Nonlinear Schroedinger Equation on a periodic domain but the method can be applied to any equation in hamiltonian form with conserved quantities.
