Pulse propagation in elastic tubes
Of concern are some phenomena associated with the propagation of pulses in
fluid-filled tubes with elastic walls, as they appear in various models of
the blood vessels in the circulatory system. Due to the tapering and
viscous effects present in physiological conditions, one obtains (in the
long-wave approximation) the Korteweg-de Vries equation with variable
coefficients and with dissipation. An existence theory as well as related
inverse problems will be discussed.
