CAMPUS SAFETY AND SECURITY REPORT-
THE JEANNE CLERY DISCLOSURE ACT.
This report focuses on the federal requirements under the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act". The university police contribute monthly crime statistics to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation through NIBRS (National Incident Based Reporting System). Statistical information is published annually by both agencies. The Clery Act requires UCCS to "prepare, publish, and distribute, through appropriate publications or mailings, to all current students and employees, and to any applicant for enrollment or employment upon request, an annual security report containing at least the campus security policies and campus crime statistics of the institution". Copies of the report may also be obtained at the University Police Department located in the Public Safety building/garage. UCCS must include the below listed criminal offenses that were reported to UCCS Police Department concerning the occurrence on campus, in or on non-campus buildings or property, and on public property in the report. At UCCS, the Department of Public Safety gathers and compiles the statistical information. The crime statistics must include the most recent three years information. In preparation for collection of these statistics, crime statistics were also requested from the Colorado Springs Police Department for the areas surrounding campus and those properties that the university owns, leases or rents. Disciplinary-referral statistics were requested from the Director of Judicial Affairs and the Director of Residence Life and Housing.
All statistics are gathered, compiled, and reported to the University community via this report entitled "Annual Safety and Security and Fire Safety Report," which is published by University Police. The University Police submits the annual crime statistics published in this brochure to the Department of Education (ED). The statistical information gathered by the Department of Education is available to the public through the ED website. The University Police sends an e-mail to every enrolled student and current employee on an annual basis. The e-mail includes a brief summary of the contents of this report. The e-mail also includes the address for the University Police website where the report can be found on-line http://www.uccs.edu/pusafety/safety/index.shtml and a physical copy may be obtained by making a request to the University Police at (719) 255-3111.
