Welcome to the Office of Academic Affairs at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. UCCS is one of the three general campuses of the University of Colorado. Established in 1965, UCCS is the fastest growing university in Colorado. It enrolls about 7,600 students annually. Approximately 70% of the students are enrolled in undergraduate programs and 30% in graduate degree programs. The campus is evolving as a new generation university: committed to student success, and valuing teaching and research equally, leveraging the rich resources of its community and of Southern Colorado as well as other campuses of the University.
UCCS is moving rapidly to incorporate advances in technology into its delivery of education both on and off campus. The Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the chief academic officer, provides academic leadership for the University.
The Office of Academic Affairs is dedicated to meeting the academic needs of the student body as well as the faculty. The office is comprised of the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor Margaret Bacon, Associate Vice Chancellor C. David Moon, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Michael Larson, Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity Kee Warner, Special Assistant Sue Myers and Executive Assistant Kathy Englund. Through this team and support staff, a variety of education projects are accomplished each year. Student issues with which this office is involved include general education, curriculum, and technology and course fees. Faculty issues involve personnel hiring and termination, faculty and dean evaluations, tenure, promotion, orientation of new faculty, faculty development, recognition/awards, research, and faculty governance. Other projects include academic program reviews, national and regional accreditations, academic diversity, and assessment and accountability.
The Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs supervises the deans of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences; the College of Business and Administration; the College of Engineering and Applied Science; the College of Education; the School of Public Affairs; Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences; the Graduate School; and the Kraemer Family Library.
The Provost recommends and oversees the instruction, research, and academic support budgets, is principally responsible for assisting the Chancellor in working with the Board of Regents and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE), and assumes the executive role in the Chancellor's absence. The Provost also serves as campus liaison with the Provosts and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research for the CU system as well as with counterparts in other public higher education institutions.
