Icons of the American Republic

Hammurabi St. Louis Blackstone Jefferson

We have had the opportunity to send six students to Washington, D.C. as part of former U.S. senator, congressman, and current CU Boulder Professor Hank Brown's UCB course "Icons of the American Republic." This field study is coordinated between CU Boulder and UCCS.

Dr. Brown conducts the course as it examines the founding period of the United States through the events, concepts and individuals depicted in the art exhibited in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

The course includes a visit to the U.S. Capitol Building, the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, the floor of the U.S. Senate, and an exploration of the legislative process.

UCCS students will sign up for Independent Study with Dr. Jim Null, with the possibility of getting up to 3 credits hours. The credit is earned by participating in the 3-day trip in Washington, D.C. and writing a full research paper upon return.
