Sky Sox Math Day

The PIPES Educator Academy is a 25 day course designed for secondary science teachers who are wanting to enrich their knowledge of science content and inquiry based teaching methods using the 5 Essential Features of Inquiry Model. The academy will take place over 2 weeks in June, 10 1-day sessions throughout the school year, (4 Thursdays and 6 Saturdays) and a 1 week capstone course the following June.
Highlights of the program include:

Taught by veteran, high performing middle school science teachers and University of Colorado, Colorado Springs faculty who are known for their teaching expertise.
Topics will include chemistry, geology, physics and biology along with the technology available to study each.
Dedicated opportunities to put inquiry based science methods into practice
All topics are supported with robust lab activities that engage students using an inquiry based model of instruction.
All labs will be conducted during the training to give you the maximum amount of confidence to conduct the labs in your classroom.
A classroom set of supplies and lab materials will be given to you so that the activity can be used immediately along with information on how to re-supply the kit for future use.
Ongoing support during the school year will be given as well as six continued meetings of your cohort and mentor teachers.
Up to ten graduate credits can be earned during the academy
Stipends are paid for your time and effort.

Dates: June 6-17, 2011, 8am-3:30pm and 4 Thursday, and 6 Saturday sessions plus a week long capstone session in June 2012.

Applications will be accepted based on grade(s) taught, dedication to implementing the strategies covered, and administrator support.
