PES 105 General Astronomy I
This introductory course examines the history of astronomy, astronomical methods and examines the planets and moons of our solar system in detail.
(offered every fall semester and some summers)
PES 106 General Astronomy II
This introductory course examines astronomical methods and the astronomy of the stars, galaxies, blackholes, quasars and the universe.

An introductory lab course offered at night including telescope viewing.

PES 306 Astrophysics
A classic look at stellar characteristics, the structure and content of our galaxy and the universe in a rigorously mathematical fashion. The theory of stellar spectra is stressed along with stellar distances, magnitudes, and stellar evolution.

PES 472/PHYS 572 Stellar Structure and Evolution

(previously offered as: PES 397 / PHYS 695 Special Topics: Astrophysics

An advanced course in astrophysics and stellar structures. Requires familiarity with physics and quantum mechanics at the level of PES 313 Modern Physics.

PES 397/PHYS 695 Special Topics: Cosmic Structures
An order of magnitude approach to structures in astrophysics.
