Vestibulum
The vestibulum was a long narrow corridor that connected the street with the house interior and acted a buffer to block out street noise. It separate the tabernae on either side of the entranceway and opened into the atrium. The vestibulum may have displayed wall paintings and many times the floors have mosaics or marble tiles. Domesticated guard dogs were common in many Roman homes. Numerous depictions of these cherished pets have been recovered from grave markers located throughout the Roman world.
