The Student Success division can provide you many levels of support, including academic assistance in the form of the Excel Centers, academic advising for all majors, and help with students with disabilities in your c1asses. We also encourage you to become involved in student activities, and to contact Student Success if you encounter students with problems that should be referred to the Dean of Students office or the counseling center. You'll find that the Student Success division will be helpful in numerous situations.
Here is some information on each of the Student Success division areas:
Admissions and Records: The Admissions Office provides services in undergraduate admissions advising. foreign student admission. application processing. transfer credit evaluation. and residency tuition classification. The Records Office handles matter pertaining to the demographic and academic student record. It provides information on these processes: address changes, grades, grade changes, drops, adds, withdrawals, changes to pass/fail grading, credit changes, stops, releases, registrations, Privacy Act requests, requests for transcripts, course description requests, and concurrent registrations with other university campuses.
Financial Aid and Student Employment: The financial aid program is designed to assist students who would be unable to attend the university without financial support. The university receives funding from the state of Colorado, the federal government. and private donors to meet the needs of students who can document their financial eligibility. The campus also uses its own resources to meet students' needs. The Student Employment Office offers a self-referral employment service to currently enrolled students. and to students who have been accepted for the following term.
The Student Success Center and the Career Center: The Student Success Center provides centralized academic advising for all undergraduate students. We have a staff of professional advisors, and meet with students to help them with their progress toward degree completion. The Center oversees the campus orientations, which are required for all new students. In addition, we maintain updated information on all majors and minors, and provide this both online and as hard copy handouts. It is our responsibility to certify students for graduation. The Director of Degree Audit is part of the Student Success Center, and all computerized Degree Progress Reports are updated and maintained by this department. The University Career Center is housed within the Student Success Center, and works with students to help them find majors and jobs, as well as assisting students with the selection of a career path. There is a close collaboration between faculty and the Student Success Center, which ultimately is very beneficial to the students.
Dean of Students: The Office of the Dean of Students serves as a link between individual students. student government. and the various academic and administrative offices of the university. The Dean of Students and the Dean's staff serve as advocates for students' interests and needs to the rest of the university. The Dean of Students oversees the Student Health Center, Disability Services. University Counseling Center. and Student Government.
Student Multicultural Affairs: The Office of Student Multicultural Affairs promotes a campus environment that is inclusive and supportive of students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The office works with student organizations and campus departments to provide activities and programs that celebrate cultural diversity. The director and the assistant coordinator serve as advocates for students from underrepresented populations.
Student Life: The Office of Student Life collaborates with faculty and staff to provide an array of leadership development opportunities for UCCS students including the Chancellor's Leadership Class, the Student Government Association.
Student Organizations and Student Activities: The Chancellor's Leadership Class is a leadership development program for the undergraduate student which focuses on leadership studies. applied leadership experience. community involvement. personal and professional development, and mentoring.
Academic Learning Centers: Project EXCEL is a program designed to help students achieve academic success during their collegiate careers. The activities and support services of Project EXCEL are provided to students via five learning centers located across the campus. The centers provide programs that are linked to and support the academic curriculum across the campus. The Centers are the Language Technology Center, the Mathematics Learning Center, the Oral Communication Center, and the Science/Health Science Learning Center.
Office of Veteran Affairs and Military and Military Student Affairs: UCCS is dedicated to assisting all students in reaching their educational goals while serving our country. The mission of the Office of Veteran and Military Student Affairs is to assist veterans. active duty military. and all students eligible for military education benefits.
