Background and Explanations
As noted above, my educational background is NOT computer science or engineering; it is in psychology, though my jobs have always been technical. I developed an interest in network design and configuration while working for Rhythms NetConnections, Inc., a company which was based in Englewood, CO; when that company followed popular trends for dot-com businesses in 2001, I briefly applied myself to earning certifications through Cisco and CompTIA. I learned about the Information Assurance degree program here at UCCS, and began to take courses to cover the prerequisites and to shore up the gaps in my knowledge. I finally applied for admission with the Fall '05 semester. I am now a full-time student again for the first time in ten years; on the side, I consult for a social services group downtown.
Current Courses

CS526 – Advanced Internet and Web Systems
CS550 – Operating Systems
CS592 – Applied Cryptography
Other Interests
I've been an avid social dancer since 1998; my gateway drug was lindy hop (the original 1930s- era Harlem swing dance), and I also dabble in Balboa, salsa, tango, and West Coast Swing. I'm out dancing two to three nights out of any given week, and I take occasional holidays to visit other cities across the country for larger gatherings or workshops. Beyond that, I'll sometimes spend quality time with a good novel or push miniatures around a tabletop.
