Board Member Bios

Christina Jiménez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History, arriving at UCCS in fall 2000 after completing her PhD at the University of California, San Diego. She teaches general and specific courses in Latin American, Mexican, Latino and Immigration History, several of which are cross-listed with the Ethnic Studies program. In 2002, she taught the first cross-listed “Intro to Race and Gender” class at UCCS and co-created the “Intro to Diversity Issues” course with Dena Samuels. Her research looks at dynamics of citizenship, political culture, urban transformation, and state formation in modern Mexican cities. She recently completed residential fellowships at the Davis Center for Historical Study at Princeton University and at the Center for Cultural Studies at Univ. of Calif., Santa Cruz. She is currently completing her book manuscript, Making an Urban Public: How the City Revolutionized Citizenship in Mexico, 1880-1930.
 
Queen Brown is President and founder of Queen E. Brown & Associates Management Consultants located in Colorado Springs, CO since 1991. She is a competent executive with over 20 years of experience in managing diversity from a business perspective, resource management, curriculum design, and instructional delivery.

Queen’s vast background and progressive levels of management enable her to successfully work with public and private sectors including government, corporations, small businesses, educational institutions, school districts, and non-profits. Her work encompasses diversity management, equity and cross-cultural issues, gender communications, and sexual harassment. Her services include leadership development, program & project management, change management, business planning, team effectiveness, conflict resolution, employee coaching, and customer relations. She facilitates focus groups, presents at conferences, is involved in community building, and develops mentoring programs.

She holds B.S. & M.S. degrees in Math, and has done extensive graduate studies in management. She won selection and completed participation in coveted and specialized programs including Colorado Springs Leadership Institute, Leadership Pikes Peak, Entrepreneur & Leadership Development, and Internet Success Training for Small Business owners. Other programs completed by Queen include series in Corporate Management such as Change Management I and II, Management of Field Operations I and II, High Performance Work Teams, and numerous workshops in equity & cross cultural issues, diversity awareness and management. She is an adjunct faculty member at University of Phoenix and has previously worked at University of Denver, UCCS, CU – Denver, CO State, CO Tech, and Pikes Peak Community College. Plus, she has built a strong reputation as a motivational speaker and she published a quarterly column on equity and workplace issues in “The Gazette” newspaper as a guest columnist. She has been active on several boards and committees including African American Youth Leadership Conference, Pikes Peak Mental Health, Southeast YMCA, Intel’s Community Advisory, and Colorado Springs Black Chamber. She previously served on Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber, Girl Scouts, and Leadership Pikes Peak.
 
MelindaJoy Mingo is the Founder/President of Trans4mation™, which is a high impact diversity training and leadership coaching consulting business. Through Trans4mation, she equips individuals and organizations in principles of effective multicultural relationships, leadership development and human resource management. She is life coach for emerging young leaders.

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Multicultural Leadership at Walden University. MelindaJoy acquired an M.A. degree in Human Resource Development, and a B.A. degree in Human Resource Management. MelindaJoy’s broad area of expertise has presented her with many invitations to facilitate leadership training with leaders overseas in various organizations and in numerous roles. She has done leadership and cross-cultural training in Santo Domingo, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Asia.

MelindaJoy’s professional arena of expertise also includes teaching at the higher academic level, seminar training on the issues of justice and poverty, and she is a recurring visiting business professor at the Hanoi University of Foreign Studies in Vietnam.

She is a graduate of the following premiere leadership programs: Pikes Peak Leadership Plenty – 2005 and Pikes Peak Leadership Institute – 2002.
