Hunting for Eigenvalues of Quantum Graphs

Dr. Robert Carlson
Department of Mathematics, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs

Abstract: There has been a recent and ongoing explosion of interest in diffferential equations on graphs, where many traditional mathematical, physical, and engineering problems display new aspects. This talk will focus on Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems for graphs, particularly the asymptotic description of eigenvalues.  In developing some new results, we'll encounter two puzzles in linear algebra, and point at some relevance for random operators.
