Edible Book Contest Winners

The Library thanks all the entries and is proud to announce the winners:

Marley and Me
Esthetic/Artistic Merit Award - Marley and Me by John Grogan. Marley was created by Trajn Boughan, a UCCS student, who constucted the puppy out of marzipan and shown on a bed of powered sugar. The judges appreciated the kinetic quality that recalled the exuberance of Marley who moved with his human family from Florida to Maine where he saw and experienced his first snow. Awarded by Suzanne MacAulay, UCCS Professor and VAPA Chair.

Milagro Beanfield War

Literary Merit - Milagro Beanfield War by John Nichols. The edible book version was created by John Harner, UCCS professor. The judges remarked that the wonderful landscape, constructed of pinto bean dip, hummus, bean people, and tortilla headstones, was evocative of the book and its meaning. Not only did the judges like Dr. Harner's beanfield, but our spectators did as well. Awarded by Paula Miller, Executive Director of Pikes Peak Library District.

People's Choice - Chosen as best entry by the people, Milagro Beanfield War by John Nichols. The edible book version was created by John Harner, UCCS professor.

Catch 22

Culinary Merit - Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. The edible book version was created by Heather Carpenter, UCCS student. Ms. Carpenter's entry was a rice krispy cake covered with fondant and decorated with two fondant airplanes -- enough said -- rice crispy treats and fondant make a really tasty treat that could not be beat. Awarded by Chef Brent Beavers of the Village at Skyline.

Again congradulations to all the entires! View the edible book pictures.
