Off Campus Access to Library's Resources
Off-campus access to Library databases and electronic journals is available only to currently enrolled students, faculty and staff. Access may be obtained by establishing a connection to the Library VPN or Dial-Up Configurations. See the following two methods of connecting to Library resources.
Library Virtual Private Network (VPN)
The Library VPN is recommended for users with high speed internet connections or for students who do not have a local phone number (area code 719). Select your software configuration to get the step-by-step instructions on installing the Library VPN.
- Windows Vista
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
- Windows Me
- Windows 98
- Macintosh OS 10.5
- Macintosh OS 10.4
- Macintosh OS 10.2 and 10.3
- Linux
After installing the Library VPN, you will have to reconnect to the Library VPN whenever you want to use the Library's electronic resources off-campus.
Note: Firewalls and routers may interfere with a Library VPN connection. If your VPN will not connect, disable the firewall or bypass the router to verify these aren't the problem. Most corporations and school districts use firewalls to protect their systems. Using VPN at your jobsite typically will not work.
Dial-Up Configurations
This method requires modem and is not recommended for users outside the local area code (719). Students, staff, and faculty have access to the modem pool for connection to the UCCS network from home. If you don't have broadband at home, you should use this free service.
