Finding Books Off Campus

Can't find what you are looking for in the Library? Here a few solutions:

Prospector
A Colorado state wide library catalog that includes both public and academic libraries. An excellent resource, but it will take 3-5 business days for books to arrive.

WorldCat
An international catalog that UCCS students, staff and faculty may request items not available at UCCS or in Prospector. You need an ILLiad account to request items in WorldCat. Items can take 2 weeks or more to be delivered.

Before you Start

Researching off campus?
You'll need to install the Library VPN to access the library's resources. Directions for Installing the Library VPN.

ILLiad
If the Library doesn't have access to the article you want, you can still get it through interlibrary loan. With an ILLiad account, you can place your requests online and be sent an electronic copy of the article you requested. This service can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks depending on the journal.

Searching Article Databases

Search these databases with your article's keywords. All databases listed are restricted to use by UCCS students, staff and faculty only. Members of the public may use these databases in the library only.

Sociological Abstracts
Abstracts and indexes the international literature in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. An excellent resource for any sociology related topic.

Academic Search Premier
A general database that covers multiple topics including sociology and ethnic studies. Contains newspapers, trade journals and academic journals.

Recommended Websites

A few general websites you should know about. If you are looking for statistical information, see the Library's Demographics and Statistics Guide.

• Google Scholar
  Searches the more academic side of Google, such as articles or books. Recommended for starting research, but much more specialized information can be found in the listed article databases and journals above. Connect to Library VPN to get more full-text access.
• Poverty Net World Bank
  An international look at poverty and poverty statistics.
• Poverty U.S Census Bureau
  Excellent source of information on poverty in the United States. Includes trends, definitions and statistics on poverty in the U.S.
• Bureau of Labor Statistics U.S. Department of Labor
  Another great government website. While it does not focus on poverty, it does discuss issues about unemployment.
