Most of the library's databases are very different from Google or Bing in that you have to specify the relationships between your search terms and phrases. Most of the time this means connecting terms and phrases using AND, OR, NOT. The following examples come from GreenFILE, a multi-disciplinary database focusing on aspects of human impact to the environment.
Use AND to search for records that have each term or phrase you specify. Using AND will normally decrease the number of results. The following example produces 196 results.

Use OR to search for records that have any of term or phrase you specify. Using OR will normally increase the number of results. The following example produces 652 results.

Use NOT to exclude records that have each term or phrase you specify. Using NOT will normally decrease the number of results. The following example produces 196 results.

Depending on your focus there are a variety of databases that might yield good results.
