  • SCULPTURAL CLAY BUILDING. Thursdays, 1:00-4:00pm. January 28-March 18, 2010.
Course description: Explore a variety of hand-building techniques to create sculptural forms in clay. Using references to early cultures, discover coiling, building with slabs, inlay and burnishing. Sculptural forms and experimentation will take precedence over objects with specific use.
  • SCULPTURAL DRAWING. Tuesdays, 1:00-4:00pm. January 26-March 16, 2010.
Course description: Explore how drawing is used in sculpture with 2-D techniques to understand 3-D form. By getting familiar with drawing as a tool, you will get a feel for spatial dimensions by studying form on paper. Discover the interconnectedness of elements, dislocating the desire to generalize, using 'detached seeing' techniques, and measuring. Investigate sculptural drawing through time from Renaissance to contemporary.

These courses are offered for credit through the LAS Office of Extended Studies, under the supervision of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA). The courses are part of the regular Bemis School of Art workshop schedule. To enroll for these courses, please contact the Bemis School of Art at 719/475-2444 and ask about the UCCS courses for credit.
