 Guidelines and Eligibility for 2013 Outstanding Teaching Awards 

are listed below for your review.


Outstanding Teaching Award Guidelines-Full-time Tenure Line

Eligibility
All full-time resident tenure line faculty in at least their second year of teaching for the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at UCCS who have not previously won the award are eligible.

Award
The Teaching Award consists of a $500 stipend (before taxes) and a $500 increase in base pay (after annual salary increments are calculated).

Nomination Procedure
Nominations may be made by any student, full-time faculty or staff member.

Please submit:

  1. A two-page (maximum) letter of nomination.(required)
  2. Three additional letters with at least two from students.(required)
  3. A two-page (maximum) teaching philosophy.(required)
  4. Teaching evaluations for the past two years. (FCQ summaries and original response sheets)(requried)
  5. All syllabi from the past two years. Additional syllabi may be added. If the same course has been taught more than once only one syllabus is needed.(required)
  6. Other supporting materials not to exceed one 3-inch binder. These materials can include additional letters of support, course handouts, a peer review of teaching, videotaped lectures, podcasts, Blackboard, website URLs, etc.
  7. List of times the nominee is available for in-class visits by members of the Teaching Committee between March 7th- April 3rd. Classes where examinations, student presentations, movies, etc. will be conducted are inappropriate.(required)

Outstanding Teaching Award-Full-time Instructor

Eligibility
All full-time instructors in at least their second year of teaching for the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at UCCS who have not previously won the award are eligible.

Outstanding Teaching Award-Part-Time Instructor Award

Eligibility
All part-time instructors in at least their second year of teaching for the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at UCCS who have not previously won the award are eligible.

Award
The Part-time Instructor Award consists of a $500 stipend (before taxes).

Nomination Procedure
Nominations may be made by any student, full-time faculty or staff member.

Please submit:

  1. A two-page (maximum) letter of nomination.(required)
  2. Three additional letters with at least two from students.(required)
  3. A two-page (maximum) teaching philosophy.(required)
  4. Teaching evaluations for only the past two years. (FCQ summaries and original response sheets)(required)

Outstanding Teaching Award-Lecturer Award

Eligibility
All lecturers having taught at least two semesters for the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at UCCS who have not previously won the award are eligible.

Award
The Lecturer Award consists of a $500 stipend (before taxes).

Nomination Procedure
Nominations may be made by any student, full-time faculty or staff member.

Please submit:

  1. A two-page (maximum) letter of nomination.(required)
  2. Two additional letters from students(required)
  3. Teaching evaluations for at least two classes. (FCQ summaries required and original response preferred)
  4. A two-page (maximum) teaching philosophy.(required)
  5. Syllabi for 2 courses(required)
  6. Other supporting materials not to exceed one 3-inch binder. These materials can include additional letters of support, course handouts, a peer review of teaching, videotaped lectures, podcasts, Blackboard, website URLs, etc.
  7. List of times the nominee is available for in-class visits by members of the Teaching Committee between March 7th - April 3rd. Classes where examinations, student presentations, movies, etc. will be conducted are inappropriate.(required)

Research and Creative Work Award

Nominations (including self-nominations) are solicited for the annual LAS Research and Creative Work Award. The recipient will receive special recognition at the LAS Awards Ceremony, a $500 award (before taxes), and will have $500 added to her or his base salary.

Deadline for Outstanding Research and Creative Work Award is March 1st. Submissions should be turned into Margie Oldham in the LAS Dean's Office, Columbine Hall 2025.

Specific requirements are that the candidates:

  1. Be a full-time faculty member in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences with a rank of Assistant Professor or above,
  2. Be in at least their third year in the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and
  3. Have not received the award previously.

Nomination materials should include:

  1. A nominating letter
  2. The candidate's vita
  3. A statement from the candidate that includes a summary of research/creative work and an assessment of its impact on the candidate's field. This might include a discussion of publications, grants, funding history, awards and recognitions, performance/display history, . . .
  4. Letters of support from scholars in the candidate's field
  5. "Third party" evidence of impact. This might include reviews of candidate's book(s), discussion of candidate's work in other published formats, citation history . . .
  6. Other evidence of impact
  7. An example of the candidate's published work
    Nomination materials (all letters, vita, candidate's statement) must be submitted in a first clearly organized loose-leaf binder with a table of contents. Reviews, citation history, evidence of impact, examples of published, filmed, recorded, or photographed work should be submitted in a second secure binder.
