The Languages and Social Sciences Center (LSSC) offers FREE and OPEN support services in languages (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, American Sign Language, Chinese), Social Sciences (Anthropology, Geography, Economics, and Information Systems), and English Languages Learners.
The mission of the LSSC is to empower student success through collaborative learning, individualized tutoring, leadership development, and meaningful dialogues.
The LSSC provides a supportive learning environment focused on language skills development, success in social sciences coursework, celebration of cultural diversity, and an inclusive campus community. We have a library of varied language resources to include books, magazines, VHS tapes, and DVDs. We administer diagnostic language proficiency testing. Our language conversation tables provides a safe space for students, faculty, and staff to come together and practice a language of interest while engaging in meaningful dialogues and cultural exchange.
Interested in study abroad? Interested in foreign films? Want to supplement your learning? Looking for language reference materials? The LSSC is a great place to do homework with computer access, interact with others who value diversity, and increase your success. Students may also request a meeting with the LSSC Interim Director or a Lead Tutor to review strategies and techniques to maximize learning and academic performance in and out of the classroom. We can assist with learning styles and preferences, study skills, note taking, time and energy management, organization, goal setting, test taking and test anxiety, stress management, and resource referrals!
