Heat Island Effect: Roof

Why is this important? Darker roofs collect heat and make the building cooling systems use more energy. Reducing heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas) minimizes the impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.

What does this look like? Roofing materials are white where possible to reflect heat gained from the sun.
