The current global situation is one that requires all universities to take a leadership role in encouraging and implementing solutions to lessen ecological impact, pioneer restorative practices and contribute to increasing equity in both our local communities and the world at large. The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs' sustainability vision includes being a recognized leader in integrating social, economic and ecological values into institutional policies, programs and practices. Buildings fundamentally impact people’s lives and the health of the planet. In the United States, buildings use one-third of our total energy, two-thirds of our electricity, one-eighth of our water, and transform land that provides valuable ecological Resources. LEED benefits for the Recreation Center include:
Lower operating and life cycle costs
Lower water and energy resource use and reduced greenhouse gas emissions
Serve as a living laboratory and foundation for future sustainability efforts
Demonstrate a university commitment to sustainability and the health and wellness of building users

UCCS, as a state entity, is committed to pursue the highest level of LEED certification possible within 5% of the total project budget for buildings that receive at least 25% state funds.
| UCCS is exercising a leadership role by committing to provide students, faculty, staff, and the local community with buildings that exemplify high performance design and construction |
