GES 461: Urban Geography
Course Objective:
Students will explore historical and contemporary issues of American cities, particularly factors contributing to urban location and urban form. We will study topics such as the use of public space, urban design, community development, and social problems. Special attention will focus on urban sprawl and the reasons why this is the dominant American urban form. We end with a discussion of cities outside of the United States. The course might include field trips.
