Green Card Information

If you want to sponsor a faculty for a green card, you may have to contact an independent immigration attorney for those services. A list of immigration attorneys is available from Irene Martinez in the UCCS International Student Services office. If you use a outside attorney, you should check in with UCCS Legal Counsel, since they will want to ensure that the attorney is representing the interests of the university and not the individual.

If your faculty member is eligible for a green card under the criteria for National Interest Waiver or as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability in the Sciences, Arts, Business, Athletics, s/he may be able to go directly to an immigration attorney and be represented.

These two criteria do not require sponsorship by the employer, as long as the scholar can show that they intend to work in their field of "extraordinary ability/ national interest".

In either case, if the attorney will be representing the University, you will want to get Legal Counsel's okay.
