Performance plans for current employees must be completed during April - which is the first month of the twelve-month evaluation cycle at the University of Colorado. Performance plans are effective for one year (April 1 through March 31 of the following year). A performance plan must be created for new employees within 30 days of the date of employment.
Employees who have received promotions, have transferred, or have been assigned different duties must have new performance plans created or modified within 30 days after the change of duties. When an employee transfers or is promoted, the current supervisor must 'close out' the current performance plan by providing an 'interim' rating of performance during the time spent under the plan prior to the transfer or promotion. The supervisor must follow the same collaborative steps for performance evaluation as are used in final overall performance evaluations, including providing a copy of the interim evaluation to the human resources department.
New supervisory employees receive training on their performance management supervisory responsibilities as soon as possible after assuming their supervisory role, and, preferably, before engaging in performance planning, coaching, and/or performance evaluation.
