OVERVIEW: Performance Management

Performance management encourages collaborative efforts between supervisors and employees, with emphasis on continuous feedback and improvement. Employees have an individual performance plan at the start of the performance year, receive coaching and feedback throughout the year and are evaluated at the end of the year based on how well they accomplished what was planned at the beginning of the year. UCCS Human Resources staff are available to assist, and answer questions concerning performance management.

The State requires the use of three rating levels. These performance levels have been uniformly defined as:

Definition of Level 3

Definition of Level 2

Definition of Level 1

Marginal performance (level 1) requires substantial monitoring to achieve consistent completion of work, and requires more constant, close supervision. Though these employees do not meet expectations, they may be progressing satisfactorily toward a level 2 rating and need to demonstrate improvement in order to satisfy the core expectations of the position.

Eligibility for classified staff performance awards is linked to the level of an employee's final overall performance evaluation rating, which is the culmination of the performance management cycle. However, no performance awards are guaranteed.
