Leave During Emergency Closure

When the Chancellor or designee decides to close campus, administrative leave is granted as follows:

1. Full day campus closure:

a. Administrative leave is granted to all employees scheduled to work that day.

b. Employees already on approved annual, sick, or other type of leave when a closure occurs may substitute one day of administrative leave instead of the other type of leave.

c. Employees using a floating holiday may also substitute administrative leave, however all floating holidays must be used by the end of the calendar year (December 31).  As such, if a closure occurs on the last day of a calendar year and an employee is on leave with a floating holiday, that employee is to count the floating holiday and may take a day of administrative leave at a later date.  This administrative leave must be taken within 90 days of the campus closure.

2.  Partial day campus closure:

a. Administrative leave is granted to all employees who reported to work that day for the period of closure.

b. Employees already on approved annual, sick, or other type of leave when a closure occurs remain on leave and administrative leave is not substituted for the period of the closure.

3. Essential Services:

a. Essential staff employees who are required to work during a campus closure are paid at the regular rate for hours worked.

b. Essential staff employees who are required to work during a campus closure may be granted an equivalent amount of administrative leave.  This administrative leave must be taken within 90 days of the campus closure.

Early release time not authorized by the Chancellor or designee shall be charged to personal leave or leave without pay.

Each campus department is responsible for record keeping related to this procedure.  Questions should be directed to our campus Human Resources Department at 262-3372.
