INSTITUTIONAL SETTING:

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is one of the three general campuses of the University of Colorado. Established in 1965, the University’s enrollment is projected to increase from the current 6,000 students to 10,000 by 2004. Residential housing opened this fall now makes the services of the campus available to students from throughout Colorado. Some 70% of the students are enrolled in undergraduate programs and 30% in graduate degree programs. The University offers 21 undergraduate majors, 13 master’s degrees, and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

The campus is evolving as a new generation university: committed to student success and valuing teaching and research equally, leveraging the rich resources of its community and indeed all of southern Colorado as well as other campuses of the University, and moving rapidly to incorporate advances in technology into its deliver of education both on and off the campus.

CU-Colorado Springs is located in Colorado’s second-largest metropolitan area with a population of nearly one-half million people. The community is home to the State’s semiconductor industry; $3 billion has been invested by the industry in Colorado Springs. The city offers a vibrant cultural life as well as the many recreational opportunities typically associated with the state. Proximity to other institutions of higher education in the community as well as the US Olympic Training Center enriches the lives of students, faculty and staff.

The campus is emerging as an architectural gem, situated on 450 acres surrounding Austin Bluffs and facing west toward Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods.

CU-COLORADO SPRINGS INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR VICE CHANCELLOR FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, its chief academic officer. The Vice Chancellor provides academic leadership for the University and is responsible directly to the Chancellor.

CHIEF DUTIES:

The VCAA oversees and promotes excellence in instruction, curriculum and research, and:

•     Supervises the Deans of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences; College of Business; College of Engineering and Applied Science; the School of Education; the Graduate School of Public Affairs; and of the Library and Information Technology.

•      Recommends and oversees the Instruction, Research and Academic Support budgets (70% of the appropriated program).

•     Serves as campus liaison with the Vice President for Academic Affairs for the CU System and liaisons with other Vice Chancellors for Academic Affairs at Boulder, Denver, and the Health Services Center, and with counterparts in other public higher education institutions.

•     Is principally responsible for assisting the Chancellor in working with the Board of Regents and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE).

•     Supervises national and regional accreditations, program review assessment and accountability.

•     Assumes executive role in the Chancellor’s absence.

•     Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements for the position include earned academic doctorate, scholarly qualifications for tenured full professorship in one of our campus academic departments, evidence of successful academic leadership, academic administrative experience in budgeting and team building, and achievement in increasing campus diversity. Desirable qualifications include introduction of technology into teaching and learning, demonstrated effectiveness in establishing academic partnerships with public schools, community colleges, and other four-year and graduate institutions; strong familiarity with national trends in higher education and employment needs. Sample Advertisement - Controller/Budget Officer

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs invites applications for a Controller/Budget Officer. This is the chief accounting and budget position, reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.

 The Controller/Budget Officer supervises the daily operations of the Accounting, Budget, Bursar’s, Loan Administration and Payroll offices and represents the campus statewide in many types of fiscal matters.

 The successful candidate must be knowledgeable about university fund accounting and finance, research contracts and grants, budgeting in higher education institutions, and higher education bursar, student loan and payroll functions. Starting salary range $50,000-$55,000 with excellent benefits including tuition waiver, retirement, health, life and dental insurance.

 Minimum qualifications include: an accounting degree from an accredited college or university, minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, two years experience in supervising professional accounting and/or budget staff.

 Preferred qualifications include: CPA, MBA or equivalent certification. Experience in higher education fund accounting and budget process.

Tenure track position (Assistant/Associate Professor) starting August 1 997. Looking for a collaborative professional who can contribute to a growing graduate educational leadership program.

Selection Criteria:

1)           Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in educational leadership, school administration, or related field;

2)             Demonstrated excellence in teaching adult learners;

3)             Demonstrated commitment to collaboration with other educators toward building and evaluating effective programs;

 4)             Demonstrated commitment to the ideal of educational opportunity within a democratic society;

 5)             Successful experience as a K-12 administrator, preferably at the superintendent level;

 6)             Demonstrated ability to integrate teaching, service, and scholarly activity;

 7)             Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse population.

Responsibilities: course instruction, student advisement, field supervision of practical, development of new programs, and maintaining an active scholarly and service agenda.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Business Administration. The Dean provides overall leadership for the College of Business and is responsible to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

The College of Business Administration employs approximately 30 full-time faculty members and offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science and MBA degrees. All degree programs are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. Currently, nearly 1,000 students are business majors—about 2/3 are undergraduate and 1/3 are graduate students. The College has an innovative cross-functional organizational structure that utilizes self-managed teams. The College is committed to continuous improvement of its faculty, processes, and programs.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is one of three general campuses of the University of Colorado, the State’s doctoral granting research university. During AY 1992-93 UCCS enrolled over 6,000 students, of which about 30% were graduate students. Located at the base of Pikes Peak, UCCS is a 400-acre campus about 60 miles south of Denver. A fast growing community with an area population of 420,000, Colorado Springs is home to the U.S. Olympic Training Center, three large military installations, and many high-technology firms and environmentally-clean industries. Currently a commuter campus, UCCS is growing with the community and will have residential housing for students within two years.

Qualifications: We seek a dean who can provide strong leadership in a team-oriented environment, formulate and implement clear strategies for managing growth and diversity, and work collegially and effectively with faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, business leaders, and other stakeholders. An earned academic doctorate in an appropriate discipline and scholarly achievement for tenured full professorship in the College of Business are preferred. However, business executives with exceptional qualifications including a demonstrated record of success in securing funding and support will also be considered. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a solid commitment to research and excellence in teaching. Qualified applicants will have a doctorate in public administration or closely related field.
