Employee and Immediate Family Member Tuition Benefit

Tuition Benefit for Permanent Employees

  • Permanent employees are entitled to a tuition benefit of up to nine credit hours per academic year to be used either for the employee or an immediate family member.  The academic year begins with fall semester.

  • Faculty/staff who plan to take courses using this benefit must apply for and have been granted admission to the University in order to register for courses.   This benefit is for tuition purposes only, all fees must be paid by the student.  The benefit cannot be used for Extended Studies or Distance Learning courses.

  • NO SOONER than one week prior to the beginning of the term, acquire the "Faculty/Staff Tuition Benefit Form" from the Human Resources Department.  This form must be completed by the Human Resources Department and certifies permanent employment status of the individual requesting the benefit.

  • The academic year total is nine credits for 100% permanent staff and faculty employees.  Permanent employees with less than 100% FTE will be eligible for pro rated credits based on FTE.

  • Supervisor signatures are required for both undergraduate and graduate students when the class interferes with work time.

  • Employees in an undergraduate program who plan to take courses through the benefit program and who are Colorado residents MUST apply for the College Opportunity Fund with Colorado’s College Assist program https://cof.college-assist.org.  Once registered, COF needs to be authorized in the Student Online Center to apply against your bill by clicking on the COF Authorization button at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise, the difference between the benefit amount for COF (student’s share of tuition) and total tuition will be assessed.

  • Submit the completed certification to the Office of the Registrar PRIOR TO CENSUS DATE for the term. Refer to Schedule of Course for Census dates. Please note, forms WILL NOT be accepted after census dates.

  • WAIT UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS BEFORE REGISTERING FOR COURSES!  At that time, use the Student Online Center to register for courses.  Enrollment using the benefit is on a space available basis.  If you register prior to the beginning of the semester or beginning of the course, you must pay for the course.

  • The tuition benefit will be applied to the student's bill after verifying that the registration took place at the correct time.

  • Please refer to the Education Assistance Program Policy, and view the sample Tuition Benefit - UCCS Employee form that is obtained at Human Resources.

Tuition Benefit for Immediate Familty Members of Permanent Employees
  • The Dependent Tuition Benefit is a UCCS Only Pilot Program!

  • Permanent employees are entitled to a tuition benefit of up to nine credit hours per academic year to be used either for the employee or an immediate family member (dependent child, spouse, or SGDP). For permenant employees with less than 100% FTE, credits hours available will be pro rated.

  • If a UCCS employee has not personally used the maximum tuition assistance available to her/him under the APS Education Assistance Program, he/she may allocate the remaining tuition assistance to her/his immediate family member.

  • Tuition assistance for an immediate family member is restricted to undergraduate, for-credit coursework taken at UCCS.

  • To be eligible for participation, a UCCS employee must be employed for a minimum of one (1) year as a permanent employee at UCCS. Interim and temporary employment does not count toward fulfilling the one-year requirement.

  • Those dependents who are undergraduate students attending UCCS (excludes summer guest students who may be pursuing a degree at another institution), using the benefit hours of their sponsor DO NOT have to wait and register on a space available basis.  Instead they may register at any time as they would for other non-Benefit courses and we will apply the benefit to their record.

  • Please refer to the Finance Procedural Statement: Tuition Assistance for Immediate Family Members at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, complete the form (link located on page 3) and bring the form in to HR.
