Wireless Networking at UCCS
Last Update: 9/24/08
Our purpose is to provide students, faculty, and staff with a convenient, secure, and easily accessible wireless network campus-wide. This wireless network is to help increase productivity not only in classrooms but also throughout most buildings on campus.
This wireless network provides access from over three hundred lightweight access points across campus. Configure for IEEE 802.11b/g. The access points rely on several UCCS wireless controllers that enable these access points to function. These controllers also allow for mobility from one access point to another.
This wireless network is currently available everywhere on campus except for a few of the outlying buildings.
The placement of the access points is designed to provide optimal coverage throughout a building with minimal coverage as you leave the building. While there will be some coverage outside a building, please note that there is no plan to provide coverage in the parking lots or the parking garage.
There will be two wireless networks (SSIDs) provided: UCCS-WPA and UCCS-Open.
For the security of yourself and others of the campus network, a Network Access Control (NAC) device is used to validate that your system meets campus security requirements. This device checks for an up-to-date operating system, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs. This is to ensure that computers on campus are protected while connected to the network. To see a listing of programs the NAC device supports click on NAC Supported Programs Page.
The following wireless cards support the UCCS system.
