Wireless Networking at UCCS

Last Update: 9/01/09

Our purpose is to provide students, faculty, and staff with a convenient, secure, and easily accessible wireless network campus-wide. This wireless network is to help increase productivity not only in classrooms but also throughout most buildings on campus.

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) wireless network is comprised of 344 access points across campus.  The primary 34 buildings on campus are completely covered with 802.11b/g wireless access and in the new Science and Engineering building, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless access. For complete list of buildings with wireless coverage click here.

Which network do I connect to?

UCCS-Wireless is the preferred wireless network. It provides easy one-time registration, automatic logon along with high security open access to our campus network and internet.

UCCS-Visitors is for visiting vendors, alumni, parents, conferences and temporary accounts. Students, Faculty and Staff that do not have a Wi-Fi Protected Access v2 (WPA2) enabled device can also use this network.

If your wireless card supports WPA2, you must use the UCCS-Wireless network.  You can find out if your wireless card supports WPA with AES encryption or WPA2 by following the directions on the helpsheets below.

For the security of yourself and others of the campus network, a Network Access Control (NAC) device is used to validate that your system meets campus security requirements. This device checks for an up-to-date operating system, anti-virus, and anti-spyware programs. This is to ensure that computers on campus are protected while connected to the network. To see a listing of programs the NAC device supports click on NAC Supported Programs Page.
