UCCS Wireless Access for Windows Vista

NOTE: To connect to the UCCS wireless, your laptop must meet specific requirements to protect
the network. After configuration, your computer will be checked for the following:
- All critical and security Windows updates installed
- Approved antivirus protection installed and up to date
- Approved antispyware protection installed and up to date
- Automatic Windows Updates service running
- Windows firewall enabled
- Bridging disabled
- DHCP forced
To see which antivirus and antispyware programs are acceptable and get instructions on Windows Updates,
go to http://www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/wireless-accept.htm.
NOTE: As part of the configuration, a Client Security Agent will be installed on your computer. You must
have administrative privileges for this to work. This will show up as bncsaui.exe in the task manager.
You may auto-configure your wireless internet connection by downloading and running this file: http://www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/UCCS_Wireless_Vista_Setup.exe MD5 - 7B488E65837656060E11EBAA20337B59. Once you have downloaded and run the file go to step 11 in this guide. If you cannot plug your computer into an ethernet port and download the file you must manually configure your connection. Please follow these instructions.

- 1. Select the Wireless Networking icon from the windows system tray in the lower right of your
screen.

- 2. Select "UCCS-WPA". Click "Connect to a network".

- 3. Click "Set up a connection or network".

- 4. Click "Manually connect to a wireless network" and then the "Next"
button.

- 5. Under "Network name" enter "UCCS-WPA" (without the quotes). For
"Security type" select "WPA2" if available, "WPA" if not, and for
"Encryption type", select "AES" if available, "TKIP" if not. Click the
"Next" button. If WPA is not available, go to http://www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/wireless-open.htm for other options. If you're
ever going to connect your laptop on campus with a network cable, recommend removing the checkmark from
"Start this connection automatically".

- 6. Right-click on "UCCS-WPA" and select "Properties".

- 7. On the "Security" tab for "Choose a network authentication method" select
"Protected EAP (PEAP)". Make sure the checkmark from "Cache user information ..." is checked and
click the "Settings" button.

- 8. Check "Validate server certificate". Under "Select Authentication Method"
select "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)". Make sure "Enable Fast Reconnect" is checked.
Click the "Configure" button.

- 9. If you do NOT log onto your laptop with your IT username and password, uncheck the box on this
page. If you normally log on with your IT username and password, leave this box checked. Click the OK
button for this window and the other open properties windows. Do not close the "Connect to a
network" window.

- 10. Click on "UCCS-WPA" and click the "Connect" button.

- 11. You will now see a balloon appear over the system tray entitled "Additional information is
required ...". Click on this balloon.

- 12. A window titled "Enter Credentials" will pop up. Enter your UCCS IT username and
password. For domain, enter "UFP". Click OK. If you have logon issues, go to
www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/wireless-faq.htm

- 13. The "Additional information ..." balloon will appear again. Click on the
balloon.

- 14. A window titled "Validate Server Certificate" will pop up. Click OK.

- 15. Open an internet browser such as Internet Explorer. You will be redirected to the UCCS Network
Access Control webpage. Read the terms of the End-User Agreement and check "Accept". Click
the "Next" button.

- 16. Enter your UCCS IT username and password as well as a contact phone number. Enter the current
building and room number in the "Room Number" field. (If you don't know the room number,
just enter the building. Click the "Download" button.

- 17. Click the Save button and save the file to your Desktop. After the download has completed, run
the file. Click Next when prompted and click Close when the application has installed.

- 18. Enter your UCCS IT username and password.
19. The Bradford Networks Client Security Agent will run. This can take several minutes. This program
will check your computer for the following:
- Windows Updates
- Antivirus protection
- Antispyware protection
- Automatic Updates service
If you pass the security test:

- 20. Click the Close button. Your computer will automatically disconnect and reconnect to the
wireless network, at which point you will have access to the internet. You will not be required to take
the security test again for one week. If your computer fails to reconnect to the network automatically,
reconnect to the wireless network manually.
