UCCS Wireless Security Requirements

Operating System Updates

UCCS requires that all updates be installed.

Antivirus

UCCS requires an approved antivirus program. Only ONE of the following programs should be installed.

  • Symantec Endpoint Protection (Free for dorm residents and UCCS-owned computers, see below)
  • Grisoft AVG (Free, see below)
  • Avast
  • Avira
  • CA Antivirus
  • Eset NOD32
  • F-Prot
  • F-Secure
  • Kapersky
  • McAfee
  • Microsoft Forefront
  • Microsoft Live OneCare
  • Norton Antivirus, 360, or Internet Security
  • Panda
  • Sophos
  • Symantec
  • Trend Micro
  • ZoneAlarm Internet Security

To install Symantec Endpoint Protection on a dorm computer or a university-owned computer, open an internet browser such as Internet Explorer and type "spock/antivirus" in the address (without the quotes). Follow the instructions.

To install AVG Antivirus, click AVG Download. Click the Download AVG Free 8.0 (AVG server) link. Once the download is complete, run the installation with default settings. AVG will automatically update the virus definitions the first time it's installed.

Antispyware

UCCS requires an approved Antispyware program. Install at least one of the following programs. Multiple antispyware programs should not conflict with each other.

  • Symantec Endpoint Protection (Free for dorm residents and UCCS-owned computers, see above)
  • Microsoft/Windows Defender (Included in Windows Vista, free download for Windows XP, see below)
  • Lavasoft Ad-Aware 2007, 2008 (Free, see below)
  • Spybot Search & Destroy (Free, see below)
  • CA PestPatrol
  • Enigma SpyHunter
  • F-Secure
  • Kapersky Internet Security
  • McAfee AntiSpyware
  • Microsoft Forefront
  • Norton 360 or Internet Security
  • PCTools Spyware Doctor
  • Sophos
  • Spyware Blaster
  • Trend Micro AntiSpyware or OfficeScan
  • Webroot SpySweeper

To install Microsoft/Windows Defender for Windows XP, click Microsoft Downloads. If Defender isn't listed on the page, type it into Search box. Install the package, accepting default settings. Check the box titled "Check for updated definitions and run a quick scan now".

To install Ad-Aware or Spybot, click Antispyware.
