UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) for Windows Vista

SUMMARY: This document will walk you through the necessary steps to set up the UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) connection in Windows Vista. The Library VPN (Transporter) connection is used to access the Kraemer Family Library journal database as well as other additional resources.  While connected to the Library VPN (Transporter), security restrictions will prevent you from accessing many other resources on the internet - remember to log out of VPN when you're finished.

Note: Although it's named Library VPN (Transporter), this configuration is also used for other off-campus resources such as Human Resources and Financial Systems.


1. Click on the Start icon and select Connect To.

2. Click on Set up a connection or network.

3. Double-click on Connect to a workplace.

4. If you see this screen, just make sure No, create a new connection is selected, and click Next.

5. Double-click on Use my Internet connection (VPN).

6. Type transporter.uccs.edu where it asks for the Internet address:. Type UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) where it asks for the Destination name:. Check the box that says Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later. Then, click Next.

7. You don't need to enter your credentials now. Just click the Create button.

8. After a few seconds, you should see this window. Click Close.

9. Click on Start icon again and select Connect to. Right click on the VPN you just created then click on Properties.

10. Select the Networking tab and click on Internet Protocol Version 4 to highlight it. Now click the Properties button.

11. Click on the Advanced… button.

12. Ensure there is a checkmark in the box titled Use default gateway on remote network.

13. Click on the DNS tab. Type uccs.edu in the box labeled DNS suffix for this connection; then, add checkmarks to both check boxes below. Click the OK button on the 3 different boxes until you're back at the Connect To screen.

14. With the Library VPN (Transporter) highlighted, click the Connect button.

15. After a few moments, you should see a screen that asks for your credentials. Type your IT username and password and UFP in the box labeled Domain. Click the Connect button.

16. To access the Library databases, start your preferred internet browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.). Go to http://www.uccs.edu/library. From here you can search the journal database.

17. When you're finished, click on the Start icon, go to Connect To, and click on the Disconnect button.
