Library VPN for Windows Me

Note 1: when connected to this VPN server, the security restricts you from many other resources - remember to log out of VPN when you're finished.

Note 2: This may require the CD for Windows Me and you'll need to restart the computer. Close all applications before beginning these instructions.

Note 3: Although it's named Library VPN, this configuration is also used for other off-campus resources such as Human Resources and Financial Systems.

Install the VPN Client

1. Click on the Start button, select Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.

2. Click the Windows Setup tab.

3. Click on Communications and click the OK button.

4. Click to place a checkmark in the box to the left of Virtual Private Networking and click the OK button. You may be prompted to insert your Windows Me CD to install the necessary files. When the files are installed, you will be instructed to restart your computer. Click the Yes button.

Create a VPN Connection

5. Using the same instructions as before, go to the Control Panel. Double-click on Dial-Up Networking. On the resulting window, double-click on Make a New Connection.

6. In the "name for the computer box", type "Library VPN". Click the drop-down arrow, if necessary, to select Microsoft VPN Adapter. Click the Next button.

7. In the Host name box, type transporter.uccs.edu and click the Next button. Then click the Finish button.

Edit the VPN Properties

8. Right-click on the new VPN icon just created and select Properties.

9. Click on the Networking tab. Click to place a checkmark to the left of TCP/IP. Then click the TCP/IP Settings button.

10. Click to put a checkmark to the left of Use Default Gateway on Remote Network.

Connecting to UCCS

11. Once more, double-click the VPN icon in the Dial-Up Networking control panel. Type ufp\ and your IT username and password as shown and click the Connect button.

12. To access the Library databases, start Internet Explorer. Go to http://web.uccs.edu/library. Click on the link to "Periodical Indexes by Name or Subject" or "Print and Electronic Journal Holdings".

13. When you're finished, click the Disconnect button.
