Library VPN (Transporter) for Macintosh OS 10.5

SUMMARY: This document will walk you through the necessary steps to set up the UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) connection in Mac OSX 10.5. The Library VPN (Transporter) connection is used to access the Kraemer Family Library journal database as well as other additional resources.

1. Click on the Apple icon in the top left and then select System Preferences…

2. Double click the Network icon.

3. Click the + sign in the bottom left.

4. Click on the arrow to the right of Interface and select VPN. For VPN Type use the drag down arrow to select PPTP. Type UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) in the Service Name field. Click Create.

5. Click the Configuration drop-down box and select Add Configuration.

6. Enter UCCS Library VPN (Transporter) and click Create.

7. In the Server Address field enter transporter.ucc.edu.  In the Account Name field type your student e-mail address (username@uccs.edu). Make sure Encryption is set to Automatic (128 bit or 40 bit).

8. Click the Advanced… button in the lower right.

9. On the Options tab, make sure the Send all traffic over VPN Connection is selected.

10. Click the DNS tab button, then click the + button under Search Domains. Type uccs.edu in the new field. Click OK.

11. Click the Connect button. If prompted enter your IT password.

12. Verify the connection is established by looking for Connected under the Status entry.

13. Open a web browser like Safari and go to www.uccs.edu/library. From here you can search the databases or journals.

14. When you are finished, open System Preferences and Network (steps 1 and 2). Select the VPN entry and click Disconnect.
