Library VPN for Windows 2000

Note: when connected to this VPN server, the security restricts you from many other resources - remember
to log out of VPN when you're finished.
Note: Although it's named Library VPN, this configuration is also used for other off-campus
resources such as Human Resources and Financial Systems.

- 1. Click on the Start button, go to Settings, then to Network and Dial-Up Connections, and select
"Make New Connection."

- 2. This opens the wizard. Click the Next button. Click on "Connect to a private network
through the internet" and click the Next button.

- 3. If you have a dial-up configuration on your computer, this screen should appear next. If you
have broadband, click on "Do not dial the initial connection."

- 4. Otherwise make sure the correct dial-up connection is shown in the box. Click the down-arrow to
select a different dial-up connection. Click the Next button.

- 5. Type transporter.uccs.edu in the box and click the Next button.

- 6. Select the appropriate choice and click the Next button.

- 7. Type "Library VPN" in the box and click the Finish button.

- 8. Click on the Start button, go to Settings, then to Network and Dial-Up Connections, and select
Library VPN.

- 9. Click the Properties button.

- 10. Click the Options button. Click to place a checkmark to the left of "Include Windows logon
domain".

- 11. Click the Networking tab. With "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" highlighted, click the
Properties button.

- 12. Click the Advanced button.

- 13. Ensure there is a checkmark in the box marked "Use default gateway on remote
network". Click the OK button.

- 14. To use VPN, click on the Start button, go to Settings, then to Network and Dial-Up Connections,
and select Library VPN.

- 15. Type your IT username and password and UFP as the domain as shown above and click the Connect
button. If you have dial-up, you may have to enter the dial-up username and password on another window
that pops up.
16. To access the Library databases, start Internet Explorer. Go to http://web.uccs.edu/library. Click
on the link to "Periodical Indexes by Name or Subject" or "Print and Electronic Journal
Holdings".

- 17. When you're finished, click on the Start button, go to Settings, then to Network and
Dial-Up Connections, and select Library VPN. Click the Disconnect button.
