Using File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

  • Standard file transfer protocol (FTP) is a much-used, but insecure program. If a password is required to log in, FTP will send the password unprotected over the internet where it could be captured by other users.
  • If you have a website on the Unix server (www.uccs.edu) or need to upload files to brain.uccs.edu, we recommend you install SSH Secure Shell, a secure FTP program. See the instructions at the link below.
  • If you have a website on the FrontPage server (web.uccs.edu), we recommend you use Microsoft FrontPage to upload your files. Staff and faculty should contact Brad Cook at 262-3826 to buy a license for FrontPage if necessary. Students will find FrontPage loaded on the lab computers in the Library or Columbine Hall 231.
