Configuring Thunderbird for UCCS E-Mail

NOTE: These instructions explain the configuration to the UCCS Webmail server. They will not work if you use the UCCS Exchange server (Example email address: first.lastname@ufp.uccs.edu).

Initial Configuration of Thunderbird: If Thunderbird has never been configured on your computer before, you will see a screen simlilar to the following when you start Thunderbird. If the screen does not appear, please go to step 2.

1. Select Email account then click Next. Skip to step 5.

2. In Thunderbird, click the Tools menu and select Account Settings.

3. Click Add Acount...

4. Select Email account then click Next.

5. Enter the following information then click Next.
  • Your Name: The name you would like to appear on your email
  • E-Mail Address: Your UCCS email Address (i.e. username@uccs.edu)

6. Enter the following information then click Next.
  • Select IMAP
  • Incoming Server: imap.uccs.edu
  • Outgoing Server: smtp.uccs.edu

7. Enter the following information then click Next.
  • Incoming User Name: Your UCCS IT Username
  • Outgoing User Name: Your UCCS IT Username

8. Enter the following information then click Next.
  • Account Name: username@uccs.edu

9. Verify that the account information is correct then click Finish.

9a. Do not enter your password if prompted to do so.

10. Select Server Settings. If this is not visable use step 2 to access this menu.
  • Use secure connection: Select SSL.
  • Port: Verify that 993 is entered.

11. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP), select the smtp.uccs.edu entry, and click Edit...

12. Enter the following information then click OK. Click OK again.
  • Use secure connection: Select SSL
  • Port: Verify that 465 is entered
  • Check the box for Use name and password
  • User Name: UCCS IT username

13. Click the Get Mail icon and enter your UCCS IT password if prompted. Leave Use Password Manager to remember this password blank. This prevents another person from sitting down to your computer and accessing your email.
