Secure File Transfer (SSH) Used for Unix Web, Brain, SPSS, and A-card Access

1. Open Internet Explorer and go to http://spock.uccs.edu/pub/ssh/sshsetup.exe   Click Run when prompted. (If you use a dial-up connection, you might want to Save the file to your Desktop instead. Then double-click the icon of the saved file.)

2. Click the Next/Yes/Finish buttons to accept the defaults, except for the window below. Click the box to the left of Desktop Icons to remove the checkmark before clicking the Next button. These desktop icons will not work. There are instructions below to create working desktop icons.

3. Click on the Start button, move the cursor to (All) Programs, then to SSH Secure Shell, and select Secure Shell Client. Click on the Profiles button and select Add Profile.

4. Type UCCS Unix in the small window and click the Add to Profiles button. UCCS Unix is used to access a website on Unix (www.uccs.edu) or email through Pine.

5. If you're in a class using SPSS, click on the Profiles button and select Add Profile. Type SPSS in the small window and click the Add to Profiles button. If you don't use SPSS, ignore all other references to SPSS in these instructions.

6. If you reallocate funds for A-card, click on the Profiles button and select Add Profile. Type A-Card in the small window and click the Add to Profiles button. If you don't need A-card, ignore all other references to A-card in these instructions.

7. Click on the Profiles button and select Edit Profiles. Click on UCCS Unix on the lefthand list. Type brain.uccs.edu in the Host name box and your IT username in the User name box. (This is the same username you use for email on UCCS.)

8. If you have SPSS on the lefthand list, click on it. Type lynx.uccs.edu in the Host name box and your IT username in the User name box.

9. If you have A-Card on the lefthand list, click on it. Type pendragon.colorado.edu in the Host name box and your A-Card username in the User name box. (This is the username that was created when you set up your A-Card account. If you don't remember this username, call the A-card support at 877-724-0115.)

10. Click the OK button. Then close the window.

The following instructions create Desktop icons for UCCS Unix and A-Card. They are not required. If you do not wish to create the icons, go to step 18.

11. Right-click the Start button and select Explore. If you have Windows 2000 or Windows XP, click the plus sign to the left of the Applications Data folder within your profile (the folder with your IT user name as its title). Click on the SSH folder. (Windows 95/98 instructions are in step 13.)

12. If you cannot see the Applications Data folder, click the Tools tab and select Folder Options. Click the view tab. Under "Hidden files and folders," click "Show hidden files and folders." If there's a checkmark to the left of "Hide extensions for known file types," click to remove it. Click the OK button. Skip the next step.

13. If you have Windows 95 or Windows 98, click the plus sign to the left of the Program Files folder, then click the plus sign to the left of the SSH folder, then click the plus sign to the left of the Users folder. Click on the folder with your NT user name as its title.

14. Right-click the UCCS Unix icon, move the cursor to Send To, and select Desktop (create shortcut).

15. If you have an SPSS icon, right-click on it, move the cursor to Send To, and select Desktop (create shortcut).

16. If you have an A-card icon, right-click on it, move the cursor to Send To, and select Desktop (create shortcut).

17. Close the window.

18. Click an icon to start Secure Shell Client. If you did not create the icons, start Secure Shell Client from the Start button. Click the Profiles button and select UCCS Unix, SPSS, or A-Card to connect. Important Note: The first time you connect to either client, you'll be asked if you wish to save the host public key. Answer Yes.
