Critical Updates for Apple Macintosh

The following tutorial will help you set up your Mac OS X computer to automatically install updates. It is necessary to install all critical updates to your Macintosh. Apple updates their software constantly to correct problems. The instructions below set OS X systems to automatically update as follows:

  • Monday - Thursday at 7:20 am: automatically download and install updates
  • Friday at 7:20 am: automatically download and install updates, then restart

1. Click anywhere on the desktop so that Finder appears in the upper left corner.

2. Under the Go menu, choose Connect to Server.

3. In the address field, type apple.uccs.edu/uccs and click Connect.

4. Click Cancel in the Authenticate to Kerberos window.

5. Select Guest and click Connect.

6. A network drive called UCCS will open on your desktop. Inside this folder double-click the folder Apple Software Updates.

7. Run the install program aasu.pkg and follow the instructions. Re-enter your password if requested. You may need to restart your computer when the updates complete.

Failure to update your computer can make your computer vulnerable to malware and other security risks.
