Configuring MacMail for UCCS Email (Macintosh OS 10)

Configuration

1. Find and double click on your mail icon. If you do not have an alias on the desktop or icon in the doc bar, double click on your hard drive. Then open Applications and then Mail, as shown above. If you have never set up an e-mail account on this computer, a window will prompt you for information. Skip to step 5 to continue. If you never have setup an e-mail account, go to step 2.

2. On the tool bar at the top of the screen, click Mail and select Preferences. You should see a window as shown above.

3. Click Add Account and fill in the information as listed.
  • Under Account type, make sure you select IMAP.
  • Enter your e-mail address in the Description field. Description and e-mail address should be filled in the same.
  • Add your full name as you would like it to be shown on your e-mails.
  • Type imap.uccs.edu as the Incoming Mail server.
  • Enter your IT username in the User Name field.
  • If you wish, you may enter your IT password. However this may give other people access to your e-mail.
  • Type smtp.uccs.edu as the Outgoing Mail Server. If the option does not exist click the Options... button.

4. Enter smtp.uccs.edu in the Outgoing Mail Server. Click OK. Click OK on the Accounts window if it's still open. Go to step 8 for instructions on using MacMail.

5. Fill in the information as it applies to you.
  • Enter the your full name as it is to appear in your e-mail.
  • Type in your UCCS e-mail address in the e-mail address field.
  • Type imap.uccs.edu as the Incoming Mail server.
  • For Mail Server Type, chose IMAP.
  • Enter your IT username in the next field.
  • If you wish, you may enter your IT password. However this may give other people access to your e-mail.
  • Type smtp.uccs.edu as the Outgoing Mail Server. Click OK.

6. When the box appears asking to Import Mail Boxes, choose Yes if you entered a password in the step above. Otherwise choose No.

7. If you did not enter your password previously, you should be prompted to enter it. Your e-mail should begin to download along with your IMAP folders.

8. Here is an example screen shot of the the mail client when it is fully set up. There is two accounts running here. On the right side you will notice your Inbox, Outbox, sent items, etc. You will also see a listing of folders if you have created them on our server. The Mac supports drag and drop, so you can easily move messages in and out of your folders. Because this particular example has two different accounts setup, you can easily distinguish between them by clicking on the arrow beside the dark @ icon.
