Secure File Storage/Access
- All students, staff, and faculty are given secure data storage. Students get 700 megabytes on
excelsior.uccs.edu; staff and faculty get 1 gigabyte on enterprise.uccs.edu. These servers are backed
up regularly to prevent data loss.
-
Another advantage to storing your data here is the ability to access that data from multiple
locations on campus and your home without carrying disks back and forth. In order to keep the
access secure, you're required to log in. At home, you'll need virtual private networking
(VPN). You can find the instructions for configuring VPN by clicking the link below.
-
After connecting to the network from a location on campus (including the dorms) or through VPN,
click the Start button and select Run. Type the following and click the OK button.
- Faculty: \\enterprise\faculty
- Staff: \\enterprise\staff
- Student: \\excelsior\students
- You may be required to enter your username and password. Navigate to the username you're
seeking. (Student folders are separated by their first initial.)
- All accounts have a Data folder for your personal data and is accessible only by you. If you need
to sort your documents, create folders within the Data folder.
- Staff and faculty also have Inbox and Outbox folders. These are typically used to receive homework
(Inbox) and give assignments (Outbox). The Inbox will allow others to put documents into the folder,
but cannot access other documents in the folder. The Outbox will allow others to copy documents from
it, but they cannot alter them. If you need to sort your documents (maybe for different classes),
create folders within these folders.
- Important - Do NOT drag and drop documents into these folders. You will drag the
security with the document. For example, if you drag a document from the Outbox to your Data folder, it
may still be accessible to everyone. Always copy and paste documents.
- Remember there is no trashcan in these folders. If you delete a document, it's gone
forever.
