Dormitory Set Up for Macintosh OS 10

Last Update: 5/20/07

Install UCCS Antivirus

1. You need to remove any antivirus program on your computer prior to installing Symantec Antivirus from UCCS. If you're unsure on what to remove, call the Help Desk at 262-3536. Open the hard drive. Open the Applications folder. Drag the antivirus program to the Trashcan to remove it.

2. Start a web browser. Type spock/antivirus/macin.html in the Address box and and follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure LiveUpdate runs after Symantec Antivirus is installed.

To access your email account, you need to open a web browser and go to https://webmail.uccs.edu. (Note it's https, not http. This is secure server that prevents others from capturing your password when entered. Recommend you save the address in your Favorites.) Log in with your IT username and password. Complete Webmail instructions can be found at http://www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/webmail.htm

To access an IT account follow the instructions below.

1. Switch to the Finder by clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock.

  • To access a faculty folder, type cifs://enterprise/faculty$
  • To access a staff folder, type cifs://enterprise/staff$

4. Click "Add to Favorites". Then click "Connect".

5. Two windows will appear. One in the center of your screen prompts for Workgroup/Domain, Username and Password. The second window in the left corner says "Connecting to server". In the main window for Workgroup/Domain type "UFP". For Username and password enter in your IT account username and password. Then click OK.

6. After successfully connecting to the server, a Globe on top of a hard drive icon labeled Users or Students will appear on your desktop.

7. Double-click the icon. For students find the first letter of the student's first name, open that folder. Then find your full IT username and open that folder. For Faculty and Staff find the IT username and open that folder. Information for download is normally found in a professor's Outbox. Documents to submit to a professor should be put in his/her Inbox.

8. Now you can copy and paste files to and from the student or faculty folder. Note: Due to security, do NOT drag and drop files.

9. To disconnect from the server, drag the Globe icon to the trash.

10. To reconnect after the server has been mapped, follow steps 1 and 2 and then you will choose the server from the "At:" pull down menu.
