Macintosh OS-X Setup for Dial-Up Access to UCCS

After connecting successfully, you will be able to gain access to UCCS's computing resources such as:

  • E-mail
  • Internet
  • CyberClass
  • UCCS Library databases
  • UCCS IT user accounts

1. Click on Go on the menu bar, then move down and click on Applications.

2. Find and double-click on Internet Connect application.

3. Click on the Edit button.

4. Change Location to Modem. Configure will change to: Modem Port. On the TCP/IP tab, change Configure to Using PPP. Click on the PPP tab.

5. Click in the Service Provider option box, type in UCCS. Click in the Telephone Number field, and type in 593-0109. Click on Account Name. Type in your IT account name. In the Password Box enter your IT password. You have the option of checking the Save password box, if you do so it will allow all users to dial into the campus network. Remember that you are responsible for all actions done under your account name. Click on PPP Options.

6. "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" should be unchecked. "Prompt to stay connected if idle for __ minutes" should be checked enter a time amount in the field. 15 minutes is suggested. Check "Disconnect if idle for __ minutes" this field should be the same time as the above. "Disconnect when user logs off" should not be checked. Check "Redial if busy". Enter a number in the field for how many times you want to redial, entering 1 is suggested. Click on OK to exit out. Click on Save to save your settings and return to the connection screen.

7. If you haven't already entered your IT password do so now. Click on Connect to connect to the UCCS Remote Access Network.

8. OS-X will then dial in and attempt to connect with the UCCS servers. Once connected to the servers, the connection status will be displayed. Minimize the connection box.

9. To access the internet, open a browser, such as Internet Explorer. You should be able to start browsing web pages.

10. To access your email account, you need to open Internet Explorer and go to webmail.uccs.edu. Log in with your IT username and password. Complete Webmail instructions can be found at http://www.uccs.edu/helpdesk/webmail.htm

11. To access an IT account, click on the Go menu and select Connect to Server. Type cifs://excelsior/students$ for accessing a student's folder or type cifs://enterprise/faculty$ for accessing a professor's inbox or outbox. Press the OK button.

12. A Students or Faculty icon should appear on the Desktop. Double-click this to find the appropriate folder. Drag the icon to the Trash when you're finished.
