Antivirus Software

  • To protect your computer, you should always run antivirus software and keep it up to date.
  • The university provides Symantec Endpoint Protection (commercial version of Norton Antivirus) for all campus computers including dormitory residents. Any antivirus software on dormitory computers needs to be removed and replaced with the campus-managed antivirus software to protect the UCCS network. Click the link below for additional information and instructions.
  • The campus Symantec is updated automatically and a virus and spyware scan is performed periodically as long as the computer is on campus and connected to the network. If a dorm or university computer is removed from the campus, you must connect with an on-campus VPN to update your computer. Click the link below for more information.
  • Other students along with staff and faculty should purchase antivirus software to protect their personal computers. The UCCS Bookstore sells antivirus software at a substantial discount.
  • Antivirus software on personal computers other than the dorms will need your input to keep the protection working. Update the virus definitions at least monthly and then scan your computer for viruses.
