Antivirus Software

Updated 7/24/09
  • To protect your computer, you should always run antivirus software and keep it up to date.  Antivirus Software is required to use the wireless network on campus.

  • University Owned Computers On Campus
    • The university provides Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for all University owned computers.
    • SEP is updated automatically and a virus and spyware scan is performed weekly. If you use a laptop it will automatically update if it is not on the campus network.
    • Please contact the Help Desk to have SEP installed on your computer.
  • Personal, Dorm and Off Campus
    • Students should install antivirus software to protect their personal computers.
    • The UCCS Bookstore sells professional antivirus software at a substantial discount.
    • You may also choose to install a free Antivirus program.  The Help Desk recommends using one of the following:
      • AVG (Will slow your computer down some but does a very good job of protection)
      • Avira (Will not slow your computer down but you will receive popups to purchase full version)
    • Antivirus software on personal computers will need your input to keep the protection working. Update the virus definitions at least weekly and then scan your computer for viruses.
