Configuring Apple Mail (Tiger 10.4) for UCCS E-Mail

These instructions explain how to configure Apple Mail to work with your UCCS e-mail as well as use additional features inside of Apple Mail.

Initial Configuration of Apple Mail: If Apple Mail has not been configured on your computer before, you will see a screen simlilar to the following when you start Apple Mail. If the screen does not appear, please go to step 12.

1. Open Mail.

2. Click Continue.

3. Enter the following information:
  • Account Type: IMAP
  • Account Description: imap.uccs.edu
  • Full Name: The way your name will appear in email.
  • Email Address: username@uccs.edu
When you're finished, click Continue.

4. Enter the following information then click Continue.
  • Incoming Mail Server: imap.uccs.edu
  • User Name: UCCS IT username
  • Password: UCCS IT password

5. Enter the following information then click Continue.
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.uccs.edu
  • Use Authentication is checked.
  • User Name: UCCS IT username
  • Password: UCCS IT password

6. Verify that the account information is correct then click Continue.

7. Inside of Mail, click Mail and select Preferences...

8. Select the imap.uccs.edu account, click the Advanced tab, and verify the following information.
  • Use SSL is checked.
  • Port: 993

9. Select the imap.uccs.edu account, click Account Information, and click the Server Settings... button.

10. Enter the following information:
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.uccs.edu
  • Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is checked.
  • Server Port: 465
  • Authentication: Password
  • User Name: UCCS IT username
  • Password: UCCS IT password
When you're finished, click OK.

11. Close the Account window when finished and enter your UCCS IT password if prompted. You should be able to use Mail now.

Secondary Configuration of Outlook: This will occur when Mail has already been configured for use with another e-mail account.
12. Open Mail.

13. Inside of Mail, click Mail and select Preferences...

14. Click the +(plus) symbol in the bottom left of the screen. Follow steps 2 - 12.
