Description: A calculus-based introduction to probability and statistics.  Counting rules, independence, Bayes' rule, random variables, expectation, probability density and cumulative distribution function, joint and marginal distributions, discrete distributions including the binomial, geometric, Poisson, and hypergeometric distributions, mathematical expectation, variance, covariance and correlation, Chebyshev's inequality, continuous distributions including the Uniform, Normal, Exponential, Gamma, Chi-square and Student distributions, sampling distributions, normal approximation, parameter estimation, confidence intervals, two independent samples, paired samples, hypothesis testing, p-values.

Homework and Tests: Homework will be assigned and collected weekly; see the assignments and due dates on the syllabus.  Late homework will not be accepted. The lowest homework score will be dropped.  There will be two mid-semester tests and a final exam.  The final exam will cover material primarily from the material after the second midterm test.  The following percentages may be used to compute the final grade: homework, 20%; midterm tests, 25% each, final exam, 30%.
