Latin Proverb A freethinker is a person who forms opinions about religion on the basis of reason, independently of tradition, authority, or established belief. Freethinkers include atheists, agnostics, secular humanists and rationalists. Some famous freethinkers include Mark Twain, Thomas Edison, Frederick Douglass, Carl Sagan, Margaret Sanger, Albert Einstein, Kurt Vonnegut, Susan B. Anthony, Stephen Hawkings and many other great thinkers.
Most freethinkers are skeptics and are devoted to free inquiry in all fields of human endeavor. Most are committed to a scientific outlook and the use of the scientific method in acquiring knowledge; to uphold humanist ethical values and principles. The goal is to further the respect for different viewpoints, and for the advancement of intellectual ideas.
University Freethinkers is an educational group concerned with separation of church and state. University Freethinkers is established for the purpose of providing sanction and an outfit for the freedom of expression of non traditional religious view points without fear of condemnation or proselytization as well as increase opportunity to understand, and challenge intolerance.
The group will also have speakers and debates, and will challenge and/or examine claims such as abortion, gay rights, creation/evolution, church/state separation, alien abductions, satanism and other cults, psychics, holocaust denial, conspiracies, miracles or faith healing, Biblical claims, and much much more.
