Financial Aid Eligibility
General eligibility guidelines:
To be eligible for financial aid you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Have a valid social security number.
- Not be in default of any Federal funds.
- Make satisfactory acadmic progress.
- Be seeking a degree or certificate. (Unclassified students are eligible for alternative student loans).
- Be registered with the Selective Service (males only).
Undergraduate students:
Part-time students:
- Full time is 12 credit hours for undergraduate students and 5 credit hours for graduate
students. Half-time is at least 6 credit hours for undergraduates and at least 3 credit hours
for graduates.
- Half-time students are considered for aid (including loans) up to the cost of tuition,
fees, books, room and board, travel and miscellaneous expenses. These students may also be
eligible for work study.
- Less than half-time students are not eligible for Federal Stafford loans, but may seek an
alternative student loan.
- Less than half-time students can receive a prorated Federal Pell grant, if eligible.
Transfer students:
If you are transferring from another university or college and wish to
apply for financial aid, you must follow the same procedure as new students entering UCCS for the
first time:
- Fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible.
- If you have already filled out the FAFSA, add the UCCS school code (004509).
- You must cancel any financial aid received from other institutions before UCCS can disburse
any aid.
- After you are admitted to UCCS, and we recieve your Student Aid Report, we will send an
award letter with your financial aid package through the mail or to your UCCS email
account.
Students with a previous degree:
- Undergraduate applicants seeking an additional bachelor's degree are only eligible for
loans (Federal Stafford, Federal PLUS, or alternative).
- Students who transfer to an undergraduate program from a graduate program return to the
undergraduate loan limits, including aggregate limits.
Unclassified students:
- Generally, unclassified students are not eligible for financial aid.
- Unclassified students can apply for alternative student
loans.
